Best Units in Command An Army: Choices by Situation
Three situations, three conditional picks — each with its source, date, and failure condition.
Quick answers by situation
Immediate ReferenceHolding a position, need a front line → consider Spartan.
Chrisu's defense pick, 2026-09-25 — video
Open flank, enemy back line reachable → consider Scout Rider.
Chrisu's flanking pick, 2026-09-25 — video
Ranged pressure you can protect → consider Archer.
Our conditional suggestion from Chrisu's "Protect Archers" tip, 2026-09-25 — video
There is no single best unit in Command An Army — at least, none that we can verify. Each situation below names a unit, its source, and where that pick stops making sense.
1. Holding a position → consider Spartan
If your job is to hold a point and you need a front line to stand in the way, Spartan is what Chrisu recommends for defense — his defense tips include Spartan for holding (Tip #13 and Tip #19 in his 24-tip video, published 2026-09-25) (video).
Sources, dissent & checks — SpartanDetails
Our copy of his transcript carries no per-line timestamps, so we cite the tip numbers instead of inventing a timecode (video). Separately, what a checked frame proves: Spartan is readable in his unit roster at 9:15 — that verifies the label in a dated recording, not the tactic or any result.
Tuki's layer, kept separate: his deck shows Spartan I (0:37, 2026-09-20) — a different variant suffix — and he says Spartans and Samurai are "the best unit right now that you can get in the game whether you are defending or attacking" (subtitle, 0:59). That is his view and his label, not a second test of Spartan's defense.
And this page's hold-the-point pick does not answer a breakout or attack task — that is a different question, not a claim that Spartan can't attack. Tuki, for one, describes playing actively while defending: "you really have to rush if you are in defense" (subtitle, 9:31).
2. Open flank, exposed back line → consider Scout Rider
When a route around the enemy is open and their back line is reachable without crashing the front, Scout Rider is Chrisu's pick for that flanking job — Tip #2 ("scout rider tech": spawn it first, "rush your plank, find their blind spot, surprise them") and the flanking tips around Tip #20, published 2026-09-25 (video). This is a single-author attribution: no second creator's advice supports it.
Sources & checks — Scout RiderDetails
What the checked frames verify, separately from the advice: Scout Rider III is readable in Chrisu's roster at 9:15; the 7:58 frame shows a TIP #20 overlay with no readable Scout Rider game label. Tuki's Lancer III is a different unit and is not evidence about Scout Rider. Nothing here was verified about speed, counters, or results.
3. Ranged pressure you can protect → consider Archer
If you need ranged pressure and you can keep enemies off your shooters, Archers are worth considering — that sentence is our conditional editorial suggestion, built on Chrisu's protection tip, not his words.
Sources, dissent & checks — ArcherDetails
His on-screen tip is blunt — "Protect Archers" (creator overlay at 5:00, Tip #12, published 2026-09-25) — and it says protect them, not pick them. Tuki, separately, does recommend Archers in his own video: "I highly recommend that you will also go with the archer" (subtitle, 9:14, 2026-09-20) — his view, in a defense context.
What the checked frames verify, separately: Archer III is visible in Tuki's unit selection (3:40), alongside Archer I/II variants — that proves the name and its variants existed in a dated recording, nothing more. It does not endorse the suggestion above. Base Archer, Archer III, and Fire/Flaming Archer are never merged on this page. Base Archer and Archer III are distinct names on this page, and neither stands for any other archer variant.
When it changes — attacking, closed flanks, unprotected back line, game updatesExpand
- Holding → attacking. The Spartan entry answers "hold a point." If your task is breaking out or attacking a set position, this page doesn't answer it — check attack-specific advice elsewhere. That is a scope boundary, not a claim that Spartan (or any unit) can't attack: Tuki values Spartans "whether you are defending or attacking" (subtitle, 0:59) and describes rushing out of defense (9:31).
- Flanks close. Scout Rider advice assumes an open route exists. Once routes are closed or covered, the premise is gone, whatever the unit is worth in the open.
- The back line can't be protected. Archer advice fails on its own stated condition the moment protection isn't realistic.
- The game updates. Both source videos are dated 2026-09-20 and 2026-09-25. Names, rosters, and balance may have changed since; the live game version is unverified.
Evidence & limits — sources, methods, and what we could not verifyExpand
Everything above rests on two dated creator videos and the official game listing. Here is exactly what each layer support[s].
How the advice above was checked, in three kept-separate layers: creator statements were verified in their videos' transcripts or subtitles; video frames were checked only for readable unit names and on-screen tip overlays; and no tactical outcome was tested by us. The recommendations are the creators' opinions, not game mechanics.
What the transcripts/subtitles support (author statements — opinion, not mechanics):
- Chrisu (2026-09-25, "24 PRO Tips"): Tip #2 Scout Rider flank tech; Tip #12 "Protect Archers"; Tip #13 and Tip #19 Spartan-for-defense. Our transcript copy has no per-line timestamps, so advice is cited by tip number; the two tip overlays below were frame-checked.
- Tuki (2026-09-20): Spartans/Samurai "the best unit right now … whether you are defending or attacking" (0:59); "I highly recommend that you will also go with the archer" (9:14); "you really have to rush if you are in defense" (9:31). Subtitles are his narration, not game UI.
What the checked frames verify (labels and overlays only):
- Spartan and Scout Rider III appear in Chrisu's unit roster (9:15). "Protect Archers" creator overlay (5:00). TIP #20 overlay (7:58).
- Spartan I, Lancer III, and Archer III appear in Tuki's lobby deck and unit selection (0:37, 3:40). Lancer III is a different unit and is not evidence about Scout Rider.
- The two creators independently show Spartan-family names — Chrisu Spartan, Tuki Spartan I. The tier suffixes differ; these are not confirmed to be the same variant, and neither is a result.
What we could not verify — and will not claim:
- No combat outcomes, counters, or matchup results were observed in the frames we checked. Nothing here is a tested counter rule.
- Unit mechanics — speed, range, damage, any matchup interaction — are unverified. We quote no stats, because none were verifiable.
- The live version of the game today is unknown to us. The videos are recordings of their dates; the game may have changed since.
- The tactical recommendations themselves are the named creators' opinion in context, and the Archer suggestion is our editorial inference from one of them. We did not test any of it, and we don't present it as game facts.
